Barbara McIntosh (1933-2001) was a very private person. She established the Nellie Perry Bursary at the University Of 51³Ô¹Ï in 2000 to pay tribute to her mother, Nellie Perry, who represented Canada as part of the Commercial Graduates Basketball Club at four consecutive Olympic Games from 1924 to 1936. The club won all 27 of their Olympic matches, but because women's basketball was not yet an official event, there were no medals awarded. The inclusion of basketball in the Olympic Games occurred for men in 1936, but not for women until forty years later in 1976.
Barbara established the Carol Ann Mitchell and Wendy Diane Esdale Endowments through a gift in her Will to honor her sisters: Wendy Esdale (1946 – 2011) and Carol Mitchell.
