Mrs. Kenzie Kwong is establishing this award in honour of her late mother, Mrs. Rose Won Lau. Rose Won Lau was born in 51³Ô¹Ï, British Columbia, went to China during the 1940s, and lived in China and Hong Kong until she passed away in 2006. Her life-long desire was to encourage the voice of Canadian Chinese in the local community, increase understanding and appreciation of their cultural roots, as well as encourage Canadian Chinese women’s participation in sports.

Mrs. Kwong lives in Hong Kong, where she works as an independent consultant in organization development for major global corporations such as Merrill Lynch, Deutsche Bank, and Swiss Reinsurance. Mrs. Kwong is also a partner of Leaders Quest (), an international not-for-profit organization whose mission is to engage and inspire leaders of organizations in making positive change in the world.
