Teaching Assistant Positions
Teaching Assistant positions (CUPE 4163 Specialist Instructional) are available to graduate students each term. Graduate students enrolled in a PhD or MASc program within the Department of Civil Engineering are expected to hold two TA positions each year and will receive priority placement.
We are currently accepting applications for the Fall 2025 term.

Term of Appointment: September 1 – December 31, 2025, unless otherwise noted

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the instructor and/or technical lab team, perform all of the following:
- Marking assignments, quizzes and lab reports
- Lab preparation
- Recording grades
- Conducting or assisting with labs and/or tutorials
- Consulting with students
Required Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must:
- possess an undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering, or an acceptable alternative;
- be registered as a full-time Master's or PhD student within the University's Civil Engineering program, or an acceptable alternative;
- be available for the entire term of appointment;
- possess or be willing to obtain health and safety training provided by the Civil Engineering Tech team for non-computational labs; and
- apply only for those courses for which they have a good understanding of the course material and have the requirements/special skills outlined on the individual posting.

- The qualifications and ability of the candidate, based on academic merit and related experience;
- The career and/or pedagogical value that the experience in a particular position will provide the student;
- The student’s preferences.
Priority will first be given to graduate students enrolled in the Civil Engineering department’s PhD and MASc programs, in accordance with the CUPE Local 4163 (Comp. 1 & 2) Collective Agreement (section 13.01).
