Funding your education
We understand that students have more important things to worry about than money. We're here to help. There are scholarships, bursaries, and employment opportunities available for EPLS students to keep you focused on textbooks instead of bank books.
Tuition
Visit the Graduate Studies website for information on tuition and costs, including when and how to pay your tuition, and a link to the "Graduate Student Tuition Income Offset Plan" which allows you to pay each term's fees in four installments.
Awards
Fellowships and scholarships
There are various fellowships, scholarships and other awards awarded to students. In general, these are granted on an academic basis:
- Every year the Faculty of Graduate Studies allocates funding to the Department of Educational Psychology and Leadership Studies to allocate to graduate students as UVic Awards, Entrance Awards, Fellowships, and Scholarships. No duties are involved. The awards are competitive and are solely based on academic standing. PhD and Thesis-based MA students are considered before project-based MA students, and MED students are not eligible. The minimum GPA is 7.0.
- A small number of Donor awards for education students are available each year. Students will be notified in July or August of each year on how to apply for these awards.
- Students with strong GPAs are encouraged to apply for early in the fall semester. These awards are competitive and based on three main criteria: academic excellence, research potential, and communication skills. MA students should consult with their supervisors to discuss application procedures.
- A list of additional awards, such as the Canadian Institute for Health Research (CIHR), as well as other information on financial support can be found on the Graduate Studies website. Each award has its own application deadline.
International activities and travel grants
As of November 2021, the Faculty of Graduate Studies (FGS) is now accepting applications for all travel grants.
