Escalate

Most conflicts can be resolved by the people involved, but some need extra help. If you have a conflict, talk to your supervisor or contact a UVic office for support.

Supervisors

If you’ve not already done so, contacting your supervisor is a great first step towards support. They can provide coaching, advice and/or direct you to the appropriate support office or learning opportunity.

Employee groups

Primary support for: Employees

Your employee group can support you through workplace conflict. They offer protection for you to speak up about safety and unfair treatment and can advocate for you with UVic.

Human Resources

Primary support for: Leaders

Human Resources consultants help leaders handle conflicts with employees by giving advice and support.

We want to help resolve disputes before they turn into formal complaints. This applies to policy, legislation and collective agreements. We encourage you to first attempt to resolve issues at the unit/department level. If these efforts are unsuccessful, reach out for advice, support and guidance around next steps.

Faculty Relations & Academic Administration (FRAA)

Primary support for: Academic Leaders

We support academic leaders who manage conflict within their units as it relates to faculty and librarians. Start by contacting your unit’s faculty relations consultant once you’ve gathered all the relevant facts about the issue.

Indigenous Academic & Community Engagement (IACE)

Primary support for: Students, Staff, Faculty

Our goal is to make the academic environment better for Indigenous students and staff.

We address racism, provide conflict resolution resources and offer guidance to improve support within the institution.
