Test de connaissance du français (TCF)

The TCF Canada is aimed at all individuals who need to certify their level of French as part of the process of economic immigration to Canada or to obtain Canadian citizenship and, therefore, need to submit an application to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). 

General information

The TCF Canada is a test accredited by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada ().
Since the end of January 2022, the TCF Canada has also been recognised by the Ministry of Immigration, Francisation and Integration () to support an application to immigrate to the province of Québec.

Exemptions cannot be granted under any circumstances for the TCF Canada.

About the tests

The TCF Canada is made up of 4 mandatory tests that assess general French language skills:

  1. Listening comprehension: Exam room test: 39 multiple choice questions (4 possible answers, only 1 correct answer). Duration: 35 minutes.
  2. Reading comprehension: Exam room test: 39 multiple choice questions (only 1 correct answer possible). Duration : 60 minutes.
  3. Written skills: Exam room test: 3 exercises. Duration: 60 minutes.
  4. Verbal skills: Individual test one-on-one with an examiner: 3 exercises. Duration: 12 minutes (2 of which are for preparation).

The TCF Canada lasts for a total of 2 hours 47 minutes. Our tests are paper-based.

Candidates can expect to receive their results by email from our testing centre approximately one month after the test.

Our October session is full. Please contact us if you wish to be added to the waitlist. We anticipate to hold a TCF-Canada session in early December 2025. 

We are in the process of updating our registration and payment system, and the December test registration will open once the system update is live (expected late August/early September).
