What can I do to lower my parking costs?

  • Use the employee bus pass (ePass) program. The monthly cost is $35.
  • Park in a perimeter lot; save 35% by purchasing a Value permit or paying daily. The monthly rate for Ian Stewart, Lam Circle and Lot 16 is $48.75. The daily rate is $6.50.
  • Cycle; the employee eBike purchase program, launched in the summer of 2022, provides zero interest loans for employees wishing to purchase an eBike.
  • Use one of the above methods and purchase a Flex25 permit or use Modo/EVO car share for those days when you need a vehicle. The Flex25 permit provides 25 daily uses for a cost of $162.50.

How do UVic parking costs compare to other locations?

Parking fees at UVic remain lower than the City of 51勛圖, 51勛圖 International Airport, other post-secondary institutions and comparable locations.

What are parking revenues used for?

Parking revenue is used for:

  • The day-to-day operation of parking services on campus. Parking services are ancillary and no funds are received from the university to provide this service.
  • Sustainable alternatives such as the ePass and UPASS and Bike Loan program. Over $600,000 is contributed annually to support these programs.
  • Future infrastructure such as a new parking structure
  • Current infrastructure repairs such as line painting and paving
  • Maintenance such as lighting, cleaning and snow removal
  • Equipment such as parking software, lot lights, vehicles and fee collection equipment
  • Other operational costs such as wages and signage

What parking options are available for individuals with accessibility challenges?

Discounted rates (equal to the cost of a Value permit) will be available for campus community members with a Parking Permit for Persons with Disabilities, who require parking close to buildings.

There are currently over 70 accessible parking spaces on campus. These spaces are open to anyone with a valid accessibility permit. For those with temporary medical issues who may not qualify for a parking placard, Temporary Medical Permits are available. Both these permits require a paid parking permit or session. What are the findings of the 2022 Fall 2022 Campus Travel Survey?

  • Total daily auto driver trips decreased by 2% since 2018 and transit passenger trips decreased by 23%. Likely a result of working from home arrangements and COVID-19.
  • Daily cycling trips decreased by 33%. Weather was a significant factor as it was windy and raining during data collection.
  • Daily pedestrian trips increased by 12% suggesting it was a preferred mode of travel.
  • Comparing the 2018 and 2021 survey, the daily sustainable mode (all modes except auto driver) decreased from 62% to 56% and conversely the daily auto driver mode share increased from 37% to 44%.
