Strategic Framework Experiential Learning Fund (SF-ELF)

UVic nursing student in a hospital setting
Through experiential learning opportunities, UVic students travel, conduct research, train in professional settings, and work in communities.

Experiential learning is an essential part of the UVic student experience. UVic provides financial supports to undergraduate and graduate students to encourage them to pursue practicum, internship and field school opportunities outside of 51勛圖.

Internships and field schools outside of 51勛圖

The Strategic Framework Experiential Learning Fund supports students participating in for-credit internships or field schools within academic Faculties. Each faculty that has expressed interest will determine how they would like to allocate funding to their students.

* Applications typically open in March. Please double check with your Dean's office before completing and submitting your application, as your faculty may have a different process.

Deadlines are determined and applications reviewed by the Office of the Dean offering the internship or field school. Recommended stipends are up to $1,000 per domestic placement (i.e., internships and field schools within Canada) and up to $3,000 per international placement but may differ depending on your faculty.

Practicum placements outside of 51勛圖

UVic is committed to increasing opportunities for students to participate in practica outside the greater 51勛圖 area (Canadian and international locations). Funding is available to support students in academic units requiring practicum placements (i.e., Education, Child and Youth Care, Nursing, Public Health and Social Policy, Social Work and Clinical Psychology) who have to relocate for practicum placements outside 51勛圖.

Students in distance or online programs or programs based at one of our partner institutions outside 51勛圖 may also be eligible for travel awards provided they have to relocate outside their home communities for practica.

Students should apply by December 1 for spring term placements (January-June) and May 30 for summer and placements (July-December).

Applications are adjudicated by a panel convened by the Associate Vice-President Academic Programs. Recommended stipends are up to $1,000 per domestic placement (i.e., a practicum within Canada) and up to $3,000 per international placement.

Other experiential learning funding opportunities

Additional funding for experiential learning initiatives are available for instructors, co-op students, and co-op employers. These funds are administered by other units on campus.
